Privacy Policy

Last updated 9 August 2026

Dawn is a personal assistant you use over text message. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what we do with it. We've tried to write it in plain English rather than legalese.

The short version. We collect your phone number and the things you tell Dawn to remember, because that's the product. We don't sell your data, we don't advertise, and you can delete everything by texting DELETE. Dawn identifies itself as an AI at the start of every phone call it makes.

Who we are

Dawn is an independent service operated by its founder in Toronto, Ontario, Canada ("we", "us"). You can reach us at hey@heydawn.ca.

What we collect

Information you give us

Information we generate

What we don't collect

How we use it

We use your information to run the product and nothing else: to remember what you asked us to remember, to text you at the right moment, to make and summarise calls you request, to process payments, and to fix problems when something breaks.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not use your conversations to train third-party AI models.

Phone calls

When you ask Dawn to make a call, Dawn phones the business as your assistant — never impersonating you — and states clearly at the start of the call that it is an AI assistant.

By default, we do not record calls. We generate a written summary of what happened and text it to you. Where call recording is offered in future, it will be optional, disclosed to both parties on the call, and only available where the law permits it.

Who we share it with

We use a small number of service providers to operate Dawn. Each only receives what it needs:

We may also disclose information if we're legally required to, or where we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect someone's safety.

Text messaging consent

By providing your phone number, you consent to receive text messages from Dawn, including proactive reminders and briefs. Message frequency varies based on what you ask Dawn to track. Message and data rates may apply.

Reply STOP at any time to stop all messages. Reply HELP for assistance. Mobile information will never be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

How long we keep it

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal data within 30 days, apart from anything we're legally required to retain (such as billing records). Backups are purged on a rolling 90-day cycle.

Your choices

If you're in California, the EU, or the UK, you have additional rights over your personal data, including access, correction, deletion, and portability. Email us and we'll honour them.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Access is limited to the people who need it to operate the service. No system is perfectly secure, and we'll notify you promptly if a breach affects your information.

Children

Dawn is not intended for anyone under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we'll delete it.

Changes

If we make a material change to this policy, we'll text you before it takes effect.
